I was exposed to yoga in 6th grade. Our class had a 6-9 week opportunity to explore extracurricular activites such as theater, sports, crafts, and umong them: yoga. To start, I was the only 6th grader who chose yoga, so was placed with “old” ladies who were most likely younger than I am now. Being the good little girl I didn’t complain. The class pushed aside desks to lay our mats down on the cold linoleum floor. I was squished in a corner, so when I elogated my short legs they still hit the metal chairs. Ouch! Yet, I loved it!
As the years progressed, I would enjoy yoga in gyms, studios, and at the beach. I was really only into it for the workout. Bikram was even a part of my yoga journey…YUCK -too hot and weird. Then, well, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and my mom ALS. My husband’s 3 year battle took us to many hospitals, clinical trials, and stress. Both died the within a month the summer of 2016. I was at their bedsides, by myself, when they each passed. When he passed I inherited his dysfunctional business. When I went back to my teaching in September I began two jobs barely being able to take care of myself. My entire life seemed to implode. Oh, the drama that followed! I lost friends, family, weight, and almost my health. Yoga, mindfullness, meditation, and good food saved me.
